The cost of living crisis is having a significant effect on people in the UK. The cost of food, fuel, transportation, and housing has increased, leaving many people struggling to make ends meet. 

The crisis is also impacting the Care sector, both in terms of services it provides and the people who work within it.  A decrease in funding has resulted in cuts to services and fewer staff to provide them. This has had a detrimental effect on the quality of care available to vulnerable people and has also led to an increase in the number of people needing care. 

Volunteers and charities offer lifelines to people who would be lost without their support. However, the devastating effects the cost of living crisis is having on the UK, means charities are being forced to scale back services or stop operating.

⬇️As core costs continue to rise, income streams for volunteers and charities remain at a risk. Data shows that 51% of the sector's income comes from the public, yet recent trends show that fewer people are affording to donate.

⬇️Government funding is falling. Income from the government fell by £684m in 2019/20. This means that government departments and local authorities will have no choice but to cut short term funding, to make up for higher costs elsewhere.

⬇️Rising energy prices will continue to remain high this year. Electricity prices in the UK rose by 65.4% and gas prices by 128.9% in the year to December 2022.

⬇️Costly consumables that we buy everyday will continue to increase. Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 14.5% in the year to September 2022, the highest rate in more than 40 years.

⬇️Increase in fuel prices . Fuel prices in the UK reached record highs in 2022, although prices have started to fall, they’ll stay high for the foreseeable future.

⬇️The National Living Wage will rise to £10.42 from 1st April 2023, meaning the cost of staff recruitment will be more expensive. 

⬇️Increase of service users. The prolonged recession will directly impact our elderly communities driving further needed demand for more support.
